Windows Subsystem for Linux

Install some Software

• Install the Windows feature for Linux plus the Hypervisor platform:

• Install a Linux distribution via Microsoft Store - I choose Ubuntu

• download, install and start it. I'm using the same user/password as on Windows - just for convenience.

• Download VcXrsv and install it.
• configure Linux, by runnig wsl, then

  sudo apt update
  sudo apt install xterm
  echo "export DISPLAY=:0" >> ~/.bashrc
  mkdir -p bin
  echo -e '#!/bin/bash\ncd ~\nexport DISPLAY=:0\nnohup xterm &>/dev/null </dev/null &' >bin/xterm
  chmod u+x bin/xterm
  

• install a configuration file for VcXsrv and put it into your Windows User folder, mine is: C:\Users\Bebbo
• next create a Windows batch file with this content:

  tasklist | find /c "vcxsrv" > nul:
  if errorlevel 1 (
    start /b c:\Users\%USERNAME%\config.xlaunch  
    timeout 5 >nul

  or download it.

  Using

  Simply start the batch file and a Linux terminal opens. Now it's time to e.g. update the Linux distro:

  sudo apt upgrade
  

  or install amiga-gcc:

  sudo apt install make wget git gcc g++ lhasa libgmp-dev libmpfr-dev libmpc-dev flex bison gettext texinfo ncurses-dev autoconf rsync
  git clone https://github.com/bebbo/amiga-gcc
  cd amiga-gcc
  sudo mkdir -p /opt/amiga
  sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /opt/amiga
  make all -j
  make all-sdk -j
